How NOT to Heal Emotional Eating

Ever felt like you're banging your head against the wall, trying to muster up the iron will to change your habits?

Join the club, my friend. It's like we're in this epic battle with ourselves, armed with nothing but sheer determination and a sprinkle of hope.

But what if I told you that the secret sauce to transforming your life isn't found in flexing your willpower like a gym rat? Nope, it's all about cultivating a garden of love, acceptance, and room for some nurturing healing.

Picture this: beneath the surface of your everyday choices lies a whole universe of messy emotions, experiences, and subconscious triggers.

Yep, your habits – especially those around chowing down – have roots deeper than a 90s grunge band. And if you're serious about shaking things up, you gotta be willing to roll up your sleeves and dig into that emotional muck.

Now, hold onto your hats because this journey ain't no walk in the park. We're talking pitfalls, my friend – traps that'll have you face-planting into a tub of ice cream faster than you can say "emotional eating." But fret not, because armed with a healthy dose of awareness and a sprinkle of straight talking guidance, we can sidestep those traps like the goddesses we are.

Today, I'm spilling the tea on three common traps that could trip you up on your quest to kick emotional eating to the curb.

I'm also dishing out some seriously juicy wisdom – a game-changing step towards healing that'll have you embracing your emotions like your favourite cozy sweater.

So grab your metaphorical shovel, buckle up, and let's dive headfirst into this wild ride towards a healthier, happier you. Lets look at 3 ways NOT to heal emotional eating:

1. Don’t Focus Solely on Food to Change.

Food is often a symptom, not the cause, of emotional eating. Trying to heal by solely changing what we eat is like trying to fix a flat tire when the real issue is a lack of oil in the car. It's ineffective.

2. Avoiding the Issue - What we Resist Persists

One strategy people offer is substituting one habit for another  which actually dodges the real problem. It's like a leopard attempting to change its spots—it simply doesn't work. Instead, we must confront and embrace what we're avoiding.

The last place we're willing to look holds the key to what we deeply desire

3. Don't Play the Shame Game

Shame only worsens the situation, intensifying existing discomfort. Yet, many of us resort to self-shaming tactics. Let's stop throwing fuel on a raging fire, instead we need to use the flowing force of water. In our case compassion, understanding and acceptance.

The Solution

You can work with a coach like myself to use the right tools to get to the root cause of the driving force behind the problem, instead of feeling deflated and frustrated when the food based approach isn't working.  Check out my work HERE

Alternatively, if you prefer to venture solo, a guided somatic healing practice awaits, tailored to delve into the root cause—the patterns propelling your behaviour and transform them into unconditional love. This is how I gave up a daily chocolate eating and emotional eating habit. The practice only takes a little over an hour and is powerful beyond measure.

Somatic healing taps into your body's inherent wisdom, leading you on a profound voyage of self-restoration by tapping into what's lying below the surface.

Whether you're a newcomer or a seasoned explorer of self-awareness, this experience zeroes in on unraveling and addressing the core frequency or pattern fuelling your habits.

Just as you'd drain the fuel tank of a car you're not planning to drive, this practice aims to starve out the fuel source of unhealthy habits.

Don't let this chance slip by; seize the opportunity to embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing by being guided through this somatic healing journey called Freedom Within.

Much love and bodily wisdom
